Newborn, Cake Smash, Maternity Photography

If you happen to be new here, welcome, I’m Katie, a newborn photographer in Mt Clemens. I’ve been working with newborns for 10 years now, wow has that decade flown by. I remember sitting down with my husband over dinner, very pregnant with my third child. And telling him my business plan, detail by painful detail. I of course had no idea what I was doing, no grasp on the reality that is opening and running a business. The fees, taxes, marketing, social media, websites, software, camera gear. I just knew it was what I wanted to do. I’d had two babies already, and I loved their newborn photos but I wasn’t in love with them.

I wanted to provide new parents with something that pulled their heartstrings, and brought back a flood of adorable memories. I just remember the stress of waiting in the lobby for what felt like an eternity, getting rushed through photos, and finally sitting in the car after feeling relief that it was done. That wasn’t what I wanted for my clients.

Now, of course, I wasn’t that spectacular right out the gate. It’s taken me years of practice to get to where I am now. But I’ve made some incredible discoveries along the way. I’ve learned so much about running a business. I’ve made friends with other photographers and clients that I treasure so much. But really, most of all, I learned so much about myself. This journey to be a newborn photographer in Mt Clemens started well before I moved my studio to Mt Clemens. I used to work out of my home. Then I met my current studio partner, and that was when we moved to open our own space. I’m so grateful for her, she challenges me, believes in me, and encourages me every day.

There have been many tears over the years, hurdles to overcome. But honestly, there is a true feeling of pride when I can tell people I run my own newborn photography business.

Every session I am grateful for the people I get to meet, and the new little lives I get to capture. I have had such a rewarding experience, and I love having parents tell me that I also enriched their lives. That I helped create memories they will forever cherish.

Come along, while I share some photos of my recent session with Raymond. He was just a sweet little peanut, that came in awake. But once he fell asleep he was like putty, we cruised though his session in no time. He barely made a peep.
