Newborn, Cake Smash, Maternity Photography

The opportunity for photographing a second baby in your family is a unique and fun experience for me. Today, Leo, a newborn from a few years ago, brought his little sister, Marlo to the studio.

Giving families a different newborn experience is fun and exciting. In today’s session we are doing something a little different. I’m using non traditional girly colors, to keep in line with the decor of their home. But also to show my future clients that you don’t have to stick to just pinks and purples for your little girl. Neutrals, greens, yellows and even brown can be very beautiful in your little girls session.

New parent setup

Marlo’s family helped me photograph a new parent backdrop. I’ve been wanting to change up my usual boho/lifestyle setup to offer parents other choices when it comes to their newborn session. This brick wall is a great choice. It’s neutral, with hints of rust and grey. It will be the great backdrop for families that enjoy those tones, with a neutral simple background. It will pair great with all the dusty earthy tones, rust, tans, as well as those dusty pinks, purples, blues, greens.

Photographing a second baby

Photographing a big brother with their baby sister bond is uniquely special. Big brothers are notorious for being, loud, bouncy kids. Getting them to sit still for even a minute is sometimes a challenge. But I try very hard to grab those images, because one day when the kids are grown, those are moments Mom’s look back on. Reflecting on those grown children, and remembering the hard days, sleepless nights, and special bonds they created through the years.

For all my families I’ve photographed over the years, I truly cherish the chances photographing a second baby you’ve welcomed into your lives. I always look forward to watching your children grow over the years, as well as your family.
