Newborn, Cake Smash, Maternity Photography

Welcome to the blog, let’s talk about a newborn girl’s photo session. World, meet Ellanora.

She was the sweetest little girl, and brought in her big sister, who is about a year and a half old. Now, if you have a toddler, you know this can be a rough age. I always warn parents, it could go great. It could go horribly. But big sister, Annamarie, was a true charmer. She just wanted to love on her big sister.

Annamarie was quite the spitfire at mom’s maternity session. So I was bracing myself for it. But she was calm and excited to participate. Which always makes me happy!

The flow of a newborn girl’s photo session

As always we started with family poses. Now I do this for every session, siblings or not. If there isn’t a sibling, I like for parents to be able to relax and enjoy a snack without worrying about needing to stay photo ready. The studio is warm, and we don’t want frizzy hair or sweaty parents. If there are siblings, I want to tackle it first in case they need naps. Or just in case they get tired of waiting and lose their patience. I don’t want crabby kids in photos, and usually they are the happiest when they first arrive.

After all the poses we did with parents, siblings and family, I moved on to Ellanora only. Don’t you love her name? Both of their girls have such unique names, I just love them!

A newborn girl’s photo session typically includes lots of pinks, purples, neutrals. Some parents opt for yellows, and even blues or greens. I love incorporating all colors, a dainty headband can glam up any setup.

In the end I love all the setups we did, in combination with parent photos it’s such a beautiful flow of colors throughout the entire session.
