Newborn, Cake Smash, Maternity Photography

Before we settled on Nora’s flower cart cake smash we tossed so many ideas around. As the baby in the family, mom wanted something special for her.

We thought about doing hot air balloons. It was a close contender actually. When mom was pregnant, the older kids referred to the baby as Gus-Gus and I really wanted them to do a Cinderella theme with Gus-Gus making a debut in the setup.

Ultimately this flower cart just came out on top. I found an adorable little farmers market cart and decided to grab one and paint it. Knowing Mom, she likes her neutrals. So I went for a nice light cream, that’s nearly white. I didn’t want it to blend in, but I didn’t want it to jump out to much either.

Mom had bought a dress from a company called Cora and Violet. She said the minute she saw it, she was in love. So I used the colors in the dress to tie in the flowers and the balloons. I didn’t want to many dark tones, but I wanted to honor the pretty wine red color that the dress maker put in her design.

I have to admit, I was a little nervous for Mom to see it all together. She’s such an amazing client, but I know she has very specific taste.

This setup was perfect for everyone. They loved it, and Nora took her cake very seriously. I think Mom was hopeful she would smile more, but Nora didn’t mess around. She focused hard on enjoying every bite of dessert. Towards the end Mom and Dad put some music on and she jammed out. Smiles and all.

When you’re all done enjoying the cuteness here, head over to Nora’s newborn blog and see how much she’s grown!
