Newborn, Cake Smash, Maternity Photography

Do you find yourself expecting a little one, and wondering what is the best age for a newborn session? This should help you out.

Now remember, there is a big difference in when to book your newborn session, and when to schedule it for.

Ideally, you will book your due date with your photographer at the end of the second trimester. Maybe even the beginning of the third trimester. I know personally that I can only take on so many sessions each month. So I prefer to know ahead of time what’s coming up, to be able to plan accordingly.

Another reason I like to have parents book ahead of time, is so I can customize every session for that family. In the last month I had enough time to order an entire cowboy setup for one family, and a space setup for another. At my client consultations we talk not only about the colors you like. But also things that interest you and bring you joy. I love being able to incorporate those little details into your session.

When to schedule your newborn session

This is a widely debated topic in the newborn world; what is the best age for a newborn session? I like babies to come in for pictures between 2-3 weeks. But that means you’ll have to contact me to let me know they’re born, quickly when they come earthside. A quick text or email that tells me they’ve arrived is all I need to send you available dates for that 2-3 week window. I think its a great age for babies, and for moms as well. The reason it’s important to let me know ASAP that baby has arrived is because I will sometimes take on last minute newborns if I have an opening in my week. It doesn’t always happen, many times, between work and my kids, my weeks schedule is packed to the brim.
