The first birthday deserves its own celebration, and a cake smash is one of my favorite ways to document this milestone. For this little girl’s session, we kept the setup simple and playful with a pink and blue balloon garland paired with white accents. What to Expect From a First Birthday Session

A cake smash session moves quickly because one-year-olds have places to go and things to investigate. I plan the session with that in mind.

First, we can photograph your family and your birthday baby before the cake comes out. This gives us a chance to capture clean portraits, cuddles, and genuine interactions.

Then comes the fun part: cake.

Some babies immediately dig in, while others need a little encouragement. Either way, I follow their lead and keep the session moving. Because the setup is ready before you arrive, we can spend our time photographing your baby instead of worrying about decorations.

Finally, I provide towels and washcloths for cleanup once the cake has done its job.
